Tanzania is one of the states with high rate of human trafficking in Africa. In 2014 it was reported that Tanzania was leading in East Africa for having more than 350,000 people trafficked within and outside the country. Globally, Tanzania is ranked 33th out of 167 in the list of notorious countries regarding human trafficking. “Tanzania is a source, transit and destination country for women and children trafficking. The incidence of internal trafficking is higher than that of transnational trafficking and is usually facilitated by some victims, family members, friends or intermediaries offering assistance with education or finding employment in urban areas like Dar es Salaam, Mwanza and Arusha[1].

Women account for the greatest number of victims trafficked. Observable trends of girls of begging on the streets are closely linked to trafficking. In addition, young women and adolescent girls are trafficked to offer domestic labor. In worse case scenarios, trafficked women are sexually exploited.

Safe space endeavors to establish a hotline that could be used to raise concerns around trafficked girls. The organization also aims at opening safe shelter to accommodate girls rescued from trafficking missions.
